John Albright
John AlbrightMr. Albright is the Founder and Managing Partner of JLA Ventures and the Co-Managing Partner of the Blackberry Partners Fund. Prior to the founding of JLA Ventures in 1996 and the BlackBerry Partners Fund in 2008, Mr. Albright held senior positions with several private equity and venture capital firms. During his tenure in the private equity and venture capital business Mr. Albright gained extensive experience assisting entrepreneurs and managers to shape their vision and capital plans into successful long term growth programs which typically involve an aggressive financing strategy. Mr. Albright has a history of assisting entrepreneurial companies through significant growth and eventually to the public markets. His ability to work with and advise senior management of investee companies as well as his skills in filling supporting roles where existing management lack the experience or skill set, has been vital to the success of past investments.

Mr. Albright is a Chartered Financial Analyst and received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the Schulich School of Business at York University.

Mr. Albright serves as a director of several private and public companies, and the Canadian Venture Capital and Private Equity Association (CVCA) and is an advisory board member of the North American Venture Capital Association.

 
Tawfiq Arafat
Tawfiq ArafatMr. Arafat joined JLA Ventures in 1998. Mr. Arafat’s extensive experience in venture capital investing includes evaluating, structuring, and executing investments in various sectors of the technology industry. Prior to joining JLA Ventures, Mr. Arafat was employed by Buro Happold, U.K. as a consulting engineer overseeing Sheraton Hotels International construction activities in Jordan. Mr. Arafat received his Honours Bachelor of Science, Civil Engineering degree from University College, London University, U.K. Mr. Arafat serves as a director of ecobee Inc., Paymentus, Truition Marketplace Solutions, and VFM Interactive Inc.
 
Pierre Donaldson
Pierre DonaldsonPierre joined JLA Ventures in 2005 and brings an extensive experience in the software and high technology industries. Prior to joining JLA Ventures, Pierre played a leadership role in a number of companies in North America and in Europe: Bioscrypt Inc., Descartes Systems Group, Treasury Services Co. (acquired in 1997 by Oracle Corporation), Virtual Prototypes Inc., Dun & Bradstreet Software Corporation. Mr. Donaldson received his Bachelor of Commerce from Hautes Etudes Commerciales at University of Montreal.

He is a director of Nstein Technologies, Espial, Tungle, Digby and Worldmate.
 
Marc Faucher
ImageMarc joined JLA Ventures in August 2008 and brings to the team extensive experience in the communications and venture investing industries.
Prior to joining JLA Ventures, Marc spent six years with Summerhill Venture Partners (formerly BCE Capital) investing in communications/technology centric companies throughout North America. He also worked at Bell Mobility driving their strategic equity investment efforts on behalf of the mobile carrier. Prior to Bell, Marc was a senior consultant with the McKenna Group, a strategic consulting firm focused on companies operating within emerging technology markets. During his tenure, Marc advised early stage ventures on their go-to-market strategies.
Marc began his professional career with Ericsson Communications working as a product manager for wireless networks. With Ericsson, Marc played a key role in deploying the first TDMA-based fully integrated dual-band wireless network in the world for Rogers AT&T.
Marc received a BASc in Engineering from the University of Waterloo and an MBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business.
 
Kevin Patterson
ImageMr. Patterson joined JLA Ventures in 2002 and brings substantial experience in venture capital investing in technology based companies.  Prior to joining JLA Ventures, Mr. Patterson spent five years at Eastman Kodak.  During his tenure at Kodak, Mr. Patterson led numerous capital expenditure projects and initiatives for both the Motion Picture and Document Imaging business units.

Mr. Patterson began his professional career with Electronic Data Systems (EDS) working as a systems engineer at the General Motors Oshawa Car Assembly Plant.  At EDS, Mr. Patterson supported various IT systems at the plant.  Mr. Patterson received his B.Sc. (Honours) in Mechanical Engineering from Queen’s University and his MBA from the Schulich School of Business at York University.
 
David Dufresne
Mr. Dufresne joined JLA Ventures in June 2008, armed with 6 years of experience in venture capital and technlogy investing. Mr. Dufresne started his career in venture capital in late 2001 as an analyst at Desjardins Venture Capital, where he quickly moved to an investment manager position and completed numerous transactions at all stages of the venture investment cycle. He brings to the team a vast knowledge of web technologies, multimedia, game development and related business strategies. David has built a strong local network inside the tech entrepreneur, venture capitalist and angel investor communities and he has sat, usually as an observer, on more than 12 boards of directors for tech companies.  Prior to Desjardins, David worked in a junior management position for the Sydney Organising Committee for the Olympic Games and spent 4 years as an assistant and consultant for the Research Lab on Business Performance at UQTR. He holds a Msc. in Business Management from UQTR.
